Version: Post curse, right as the clan wakes up for the first time in Manhatten.
Age: 56 years old

Appearance: Goliath is a gargoyle and thus is a melding of humanoid features and fantastical attributes. His skin is a dusky lavender over an imposing, muscular figure. Straight black hair trails down his back between the large, bat-like wings under his shoulders. The fingers of his hands end in sharp, pointed talons and his feet are oddly shaped and massive, similar to that of a bird or a raptor, also tipped with talons. He has a long, thick hairless tail that tapers to a tip. His face is more human than the rest of him -- dark eyes under a constantly furrowed brow, chisled features with a wide nose and strong jaw. Even his face has bestial elements, however: his ears are pointed, elfin but wider. He has two pairs of prominent fangs, on the top row of his teeth as well as the bottom row. His forehead has very small, stout horns along his hairline. He is tall even among his own clan, standing over 8 feet tall.
When angry or just in the heat of battle, his eyes glow a bright, intense white.

Personality: Goliath possesses the same gargoyle tendencies of his clan: ferocious in a fight and fiercely protective of his clan. He also has a mind for strategy and no small amount of diplomatic eloquence, no doubt attributing to his leadership skills. But unlike many gargoyles, Goliath has an inquisitive, philosophical tendency and a genuine desire to protect not just the clan, but all those who would need his protection; even the humans who fear and loathe him. A strong streak of honor runs through him -- he wouldn't shoot an enemy in the back and he'd never knowingly lie. He's generally serious and taciturn but does show a glimmer of dry humor now and again.

Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths: Like all gargoyles of his clan, Goliath can glide on currents of air, though he can't fly. Even by gargoyles standards, he is incredibly strong -- he could lift a car with people in it well over his head and toss it several yards away. The talons on his hands and feet are strong and hardy enough to be able to cut through solid stone and even most metal. As previously stated, his intelligence and strategic thinking are invaluable in any fight and he has a quiet charisma that lends itself easily to leadership. His physical and mental endurance allows him to cope easily with many injuries, even torture.
Gargoyles age at half the rate of humans. During the day, they turn to stone and at night, break out of this "stone sleep," shedding the stone skin they had during the day. This process not only heals most wounds and sicknesses but allows them to regain their energy and vigor.

Weaknesses: The most obvious weakness Goliath and all gargoyles posses is the stone sleep. Whether they're ready for or not, every gargoyle turns to stone when the sun rises, effectively making them helpless until they awake. They can be moved and they can definitely be damaged the way any stone statue could. If a gargoyle is crushed during the day, there's no way to recover.

Despite his wisdom and generally dignified demeanor, Goliath has a temper. It's not easily roused -- he may get frustrated with members of his clan occasionally resulting in a small flare up, but to see his real rage, one has to damage or betray his clan or those he cares about. In such a situation, logic flies out the window and Goliath pursues vengeance with single-minded doggedness that few can talk him out of.

At this point in his canon, Goliath has fresh feelings of betrayal from humans and grief over not only his clan but his mate, Demona. Thus, he is greatly embittered, distrustful and pretty much humorless. His stubborn refusal to get involved with others may be his downfall.

History: Goliath was hatched in a rookery in Scotland in the year 938. Considered one of the most noteworthy warriors of his clan, it was no surprise when the visiting Prince Malcom bestowed the name Goliath on the impressive male gargoyle. Though gargoyles in the Wyvern clan had no such conventions, Goliath accepted the name, as it compared him to the strength and battle-prowess of the Goliath in Biblical lore. As he began to assume the mantle of clan leader from his mentor and friend (later called Hudson), Goliath also nurtured the love between himself and his "angel of the night," a female gargoyle with fighting skills near equal his own and an intelligence that rivaled even his (it was this mate that taught him to read, after all). In 975, they parted the Phoenix Gate between them as a token of their love for each other and together, they conceived an egg in 987. This egg would later hatch into Angela, a daughter Goliath wouldn't know until she'd nearly grown to maturation herself. However, the love between Goliath and his angel had a darker side than he ever suspected -- his "angel," known later as Demona, was developing a virulent hatred of humanity and her ambition for power may very well have been a deciding factor on her choice for mate.

In 984, the clan leader was blinded in one eye by the Archmage, an insane wizard. Stepping down from the position permanently, he appointed Goliath as the new clan leader. For ten years, Goliath led the clan and defended Castle Wyvern with skill, aided by his mentor, mate and the human Captain of the Guard. However, the majority of human residents of the castle began to feel more hatred and antipathy towards the clan, especially when Prince Malcom was murdered and Princess Katherine acceeded. Demona and other gargoyles began to resent the treatment they recieved from those they protected but Goliath continued to serve and protect them, believing that the two races could live in harmony if given the chance to dissolve the fear and xenophobia.

However, by 994, Demona and the Captain of the Guard had had enough. A plan to betray Princess Katherine and her people to the Viking Hakon went into effect. Unfortunately, when they urged Goliath to take the clan and pursue the Vikings once and for all, Goliath refused, worried that leaving the castle unprotected would leave it open to attack. Instead, only he and the former clan leader left the castle. Having little choice but to change his plans, the Captain had Hakon attack the castle during the day, resulting in the Wyvern Massacre -- all the gargoyles in the castle were destroyed, save a few younglings and the unhatched eggs in the rookery and Demona, who had fled before the sun rose. When Goliath returned, he believed her to be dead along with the rest of his clan.

Enraged and consumed with grief, Goliath led the remaining gargoyles to the Viking encampment to get revenge and rescue the humans that had been captured. While the other gargoyles were fighting the Vikings, Goliath cornered Hakon and the Captain of the Guard, with Princess Katharine as their prisoner, at the edge of a cliff nearby, and learned of the Captain's treachery. When he lunged at them in their fury, Hakon and the Captain fell off the cliff to their deaths; Katharine fell as well, but Goliath was able to rescue her. In his absence, however, the Magus, believing the Princess to be dead, had cursed the other gargoyles so that they would sleep, locked in stone, "until the castle rose above the clouds". Because Hakon had burned the page with the counter-spell on it, the Magus was powerless to undo what he had done. Goliath, filled with grief and despair at being completely alone, first entrusted the clan's eggs to Princess Katharine, and then asked the Magus to cast his spell upon him as well.
Thus he and his remaining clan slept on the stone parapets of the abandoned ruins of Castle Wyvern for 1000 years. It wasn't until a powerful and shrewd business mogul named David Xanatos, in possession of a lot of money and an interest in the occult, completed the terms of the spell by literally moving the castle, stone by stone, to the top of his gigantic skyscraper in Manhatten, New York. But just as Goliath burst from his stone sleep with a bestial roar, he found himself NOT with his clan in New York, but in front of the gates of Paixao; awake, alone and confused.
